How to travel to the Woman's Central Prison ( from downtown Bangkok )
ALTERNATIVE #1 : Easiest and least expensive: Take the Chao Phaya Express boat to Nonthaburi pier. It is at the "end of the line" ... the last stop. ( NOTE : the Chao Phaya Express is NOT one of the "long-tail" boats )! There are three speeds of "express" boats. They all cost Bt.10 ( ten Bhat ). 1) "one flag" boats. It does NOT stop at all piers ( ask at the dockside for help ) It takes about 45 minutes from downtown to the Nonthaburi Pier. 2) "two flag" boats. It is slower because it makes more frequent stops. 3) "no flag" boats. It stops everywhere. It is possible to take it from a low use "stop" to one of the "one flag" or ("two flag") stops. After reaching the Nonthaburi Pier, take a minibus to Klong Prem Prison. cost = Bt.10 : time 20 about minutes (depending on traffic).
ALTERNATIVE #2: Fastest : Take a taxi. It costs about 200-300 Bhat from anywhere in downtown Bangkok. BE SURE your driver understands. BE SURE to say "on the meter" !!! ( otherwise you may have to pay up to Bt.700!! ).
ALTERNATIVE #3 Take the Skytrain to Mo Chit. Take a taxi from there.
ATLTERNATIVE #4 : Take a Bus from Downtown Bangkok City busses are air-condioned .. so no problem with heat. Take a bus from the Victory Monument, directly to the front gate of Klong Prem.
Klong Prem and the Womens Central Prison and Others are all in the same compound. As your driver enters the round-about ... direct him left ... to the Womens Prison. Also may also be called Bang Khen. Once entering the gates of the Woman's Prison, go to the second building on the right. During visiting hours there are usually many people waiting on the chairs outside. If you speak Thai you will know what to do. If you do not speak Thai ... ask at the desk for an English form. Complete the form. Hand hand it back in at the desk with your passport. Wait while your form is processed... ( it may take 10-30 minutes). Listen carefully to the announcements for the name of the person you are visiting. When you hear it go back to the desk for your passport and a visiting slip. Follow the others to the visit area.
