A Nepalese woman was caught at Bangkok Internation Airport with almost Bt300,000
worth of cannabis resin concealed in her bags and shoes, customs officials said
yesterday.

Hari Kala Gurung, 37, who holds a Nepalese passport, was arrested at the airport
with 2.7kg of cannabis resin worth Bt270,000, Customs, antinarcotic and crime
squad chief Pol Sub Lieutenant Senit Patanasiri said.

The arrest followed information from an informant on Tuesday that a foreign woman
carrying drugs would arrive on TG flight 320 from Kathmandu in Nepalese
national green dress with blue floral motifs and a black blazer. Narcotics officials
at terminal 1 spotted Gurung when she arrived on the flight.

Gurung was carrying a woman’s handbag and a blue travel bag when the officials
identified themselves and began to search her.

When they inserted a needle into one of the bags, they noticed traces of a black
substance. Inside the lining of the bag they found the resin wrapped in cellophane.

Gurung’s shoes were also checked and officials found more resin concealed in the
soles. Chemical tests of the substance confirmed that it was cannabis resin.

Gurung said she had been hired to bring the resin to Thailand for 20,000 Nepalese
rupees (about Bt12,000). It was the first time she had made the trip.
She said she expected to be met by someone who would take the resin off her when
she arrived in Thailand.

Gurung was charged with possession of illicit drugs.
