Packages can be mailed from any country.
Registration is recommended - but not required.
A registed package must be opened only by the inmate.

Packages mailed from within Thailand are best sent from OUTSIDE Bangkok.
The reason is unclear - but this is the recommendation.

Packages, sent by by regular post, from within Bangkok, do usually get 
through without incident.

WHAT TO AVOID:
1) Never send money by mail ( how to send money )
2) Decks of playing cards are prohibited.
3) canned food must be opened by inspectors ( it can become a big mess !! )
4) DO NOT SEND books about prison escapes or other inflamatory material.
   ie : no maoist or other radical philosophy.
   Your ignorance could get your friend punished.
5) Some religious images are also prohibited in Thailand.
   Ask your friend first. Please try to avoid problems.
6) Absolutely NEVER criticize the King of Thailand.
   This MUST NEVER be done !!!!

  READING : books, newspapers,'
  GAMES   : scrabble
  MUSIC   : Tapes and CD's : check first to assure they have player.
  FOOD    : Candy, chocolate, dehydrated fruit. ( no canned foods )
  TOILETRIES :  soap, toothpaste
 
  WRITING MATERIALS : THAILAND stamps,  THAILAND aerograms,
                      global postage certificates.
 
  VITAMINS : Multi-vitamins are highly prized.
           They are normally prohibited during a visit but often are 
           permitted in mailed packages. These are often shared to the
           most needy.
